Calling all teens – this page is for you. If you’ve just been told by your dentist that you need to wear braces, or your parents have been telling you for ages that you’ll have braces when you’re a teenager, it’s a good idea to find out exactly what you’re getting yourself in for.

But the good news is, there are treatment options designed just for teenagers like you, which can be so discreet most people won’t even know you’re having treatment.

When do I need braces?

Orthodontic treatment for teens usually starts around age 11 and finishes by the age of 15. This is a good time to start treatment because it coincides with the growth of your teeth and jaws, which can enhance the results of orthodontic treatment.

Types of treatments
for teens

• Invisalign^®: Our most popular orthodontic treatment for teens is Invisalign^®. We are Diamond Invisalign^® providers of these clear plastic aligners, which are custom-made to your teeth. This makes them comfortable to wear. They can also be removed so you can eat whatever food you like and cleaning your teeth is easy so you won’t have your parents nagging you about that!

• Cosmetic braces: While most cases can be treated with Invisalign, many patients also like to have a discreet alternative. That is why we offer cosmetic braces. These use porcelain braces which blend in with the colour of your teeth. They won't stain during your treatment so will remain relatively unnoticeable and they work like traditional metal braces do using gentle force with brackets and archwires. Porcelain braces are a great middle ground between traditional braces and Invisalign, giving teens the confidence to have treatment.
• Metal braces: Then of course there is the traditional type of braces which look a bit like train tracks, but don’t worry. We use braces with very small brackets so they aren’t uncomfortable or ugly to wear and the best thing about them is they get great results.

If you have been referred to us for treatment, we’ll get you to come in for an initial consultation. At this appointment we’ll assess your teeth and jaws and provide a treatment recommendation for you. We’ll also outline a treatment plan so you know how long you’ll need to wear your appliance for and how much it will cost your parents.
