Teeth braces in Brisbane - for all ages

How do braces work?

Dental braces work by applying gentle, controlled pressure to gradually move your teeth into the correct position. Small brackets are carefully attached to each tooth and connected by an archwire, which guides tooth movement over time.

At Wired Orthodontics in Brisbane, braces treatment is planned and adjusted by our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Sep. During regular adjustment appointments, small, precise changes are made to the archwire to continue guiding your teeth into alignment safely and predictably.

This steady, targeted approach allows braces to correct a wide range of orthodontic concerns, including crowding, spacing and bite issues - making them a reliable option for children, teenagers and adults.

Types of braces we offer across Brisbane

At Wired Orthodontics, we offer a range of braces to suit different ages, smiles and lifestyles. From reliable traditional options to more discreet solutions, our specialist team will help you choose the right braces for your needs.

Metal braces

Metal braces are a time-tested orthodontic option and remain one of the most effective ways to treat even complex orthodontic concerns. At our Brisbane clinics, modern metal braces are smaller, lower profile and more comfortable than ever before.

They are also the most cost-effective braces option and are particularly popular for children and teenagers, where durability and predictable results matter most.

Ceramic (clear) braces

(Also known as cosmetic or clear braces)

Ceramic braces, sometimes called clear braces, offer the same reliable results as metal braces with a more discreet appearance. The clear or tooth-coloured ceramic brackets are designed to blend naturally with your teeth.

Clear ceramic braces in Brisbane are a popular choice for teenagers and adults who want an effective orthodontic treatment that’s less noticeable day to day.

Invisible braces

If you are looking for a truly discreet option, we also offer invisible braces, also known as Invisalign® treatment. These are removable braces instead of fixed braces, so you can take them out for meals and regular brushing and flossing.

Invisalign® clear aligners are completely transparent, so no one needs to know about your treatment. They are also custom-made for your precise smile for exacting results.

When should I start using braces?

There’s no single “right” age to start braces. At Wired Orthodontics in Brisbane, we assess each smile individually to determine the most effective time for treatment.

For many patients, braces are easiest and most efficient once all adult teeth have come through and the jaw is still developing - which is why the early teenage years, typically between ages 11 and 15, are such a common time to begin treatment.

That said, braces aren’t just for teenagers. We regularly achieve excellent results for adult patients, and in some cases, younger children can benefit from early orthodontic treatment to guide jaw growth and prevent more complex issues later on.

The importance of an early consultation

The Australian Society of Orthodontics (ASO) recommends children visit a Specialist Orthodontist for an assessment starting from age eight. While your child’s teeth and jaws are still growing, we can assess their smile and look for any signs they may need treatment

While your child might not need treatment right away, we can monitor the growth of their smile and intervene at the opportune time. Getting ahead of orthodontic issues will prevent them from worsening and make them much faster and easier to treat.

Signs your child could benefit from early treatment

If your child shows signs of any of the following, an orthodontic assessment should be considered:

  • Early loss of baby teeth (before age 5)
  • Late loss of baby teeth
  • Teeth do not meet properly or at all
  • Mouth breathing
  • Front teeth that are crowded
  • Protruding front teeth
  • Biting and/or chewing difficulties
  • Speech impediment
  • Your child’s jaw shifts when he or she opens or closes the mouth
  • Your child is older than five years and still sucks a thumb
